The Foundations of Humanitarian Leadership

  • Exploring human dignity and people-centered leadership

  • Understanding "people over politics" as a leadership ethic

  • Lessons from the legacy of D. Edwin Whitehead

  • Humanitarian leadership in community, civic, and organizational contexts

WEEK I

ACTIVITY — PERSONAL HUMANITY IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Negotiation for the Collective Good

  • Negotiation models rooted in dignity, fairness, and mutual gain

  • Building trust across differences and diverse communities

  • Influence versus manipulation in leadership practice

  • Case studies: real-world negotiation in human services

WEEK II

ACTIVITY — LIVE NEGOTIATION LAB

Positive Conflict Resolution & Restorative Dialogue

  • Understanding conflict as a tool for strengthening community

  • Emotional intelligence and cultural humility in conflict spaces

  • Restorative communication practices

  • Creating win-win approaches for individuals, teams, and communities

ACTIVITY — CONFLICT SIMULATION + REFLECTIVE DEBRIEF

Leading for Longevity: Sustaining People, Purpose & Communities

  • Avoiding burnout and building sustainable leadership patterns

  • Human-centered program design and community continuity

  • Systems thinking for long-term humanitarian impact

  • Designing initiatives that endure beyond the leader

ACTIVITY — HUMANITARIAN LEADERSHIP LEGACY PLAN

GRADUATION

  • Featured guest speaker address

  • Presentation of the Humanitarian Leadership Legacy Project

  • Recognition of each fellow's growth and contributions

  • Certificate of Completion ceremony
